How to Create a Flash File

The following information is provided to assist faculty and staff with importing a video or audio source files (avi, mpeg, vob, mpg, wmv, mov, mp3, mp4) into Premiere and exporting to Flash (flv) in order to facilitate streaming the video content on ACC’s Flash video server.  This document pertains to video source files that are complete and ready to be converted.  Before starting a project, or if you are in need of assistance to edit a video project that you would like to stream, it is advised that you contact an Instructional Design Specialist, located at all major ACC campuses.

1.) Double click the Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 icon on the desktop.

2.) On the start-up pane, choose "New Project"

3.) Name your project, and save to the D:/ drive and choose option to create New Folder.  Type in your email name and click ok. 4.) From GET MEDIA FROM pane on the top right, choose "Files and Folders"

4.) Navigate to and select the source file that you would like to convert to .flv format.

5.) The video file will appear in the AVAILABLE MEDIA pane.  Depending on file size, it may take a few minutes to import.

6.) Once imported, depress left mouse button and drag it down, dropping into the timeline.

7.) From the task tabs, found directly below the menu bar, scroll mouse over Export to reveal drop-down menu.  Choose Adobe Flash Video, Others...

8.) Choose the appropriate output video window size settings for the type of video you are creating.  For assistance choosing the appropriate window size, click here.

9.) Proceed to instructions pertaining to uploading a Flash (.flv) file to the streaming media server
