Cable Connections |
|
In order to capture video, you must connect cables from a device such
as a camcorder, DVD player or VCR to either the computer firewire port
or capture card. There are three types of cable connections to connect
your device to the computer: firewire, S-Video, or RCA. Digital firewire
delivers the best quality video/audio. Analog S-Video and RCA deliver good
quality. Firewire is recommended whenever it is available. A specific type
of connection may not be available on your device. For example, the DVD
player may not have a Firewire port.
Print these directions to guide you through the process.
 |
Firewire: Firewire is the industry standard in digital video capture. Both video and audio are transferred simultaneously.
|
- Locate the firewire port on the device.
- Connect the firewire cable to the device's firewire port.
- Locate the firewire port on the back of the computer on the sound card.
- Connect the other end of the firewire cable to the firewire port on the back of the computer on the sound card.
|
 |
S-Video and Audio: Connects device to capture card to digitize high quality video. Audio must be captured separately via the RCA connections on the capture card.
|
- Locate the S-Video port on the device.
- Connect the S-Video cable to the device's S-Video port.
- Locate the S-Video connector on the capture card breakout cable on the back of the computer.
- Connect the other end of the S-Video cable to the S-Video connector on the capture card breakout cable on the back of the computer.
- Locate the RCA output on the device. There are two different types of RCA output connections dependent on the type of device being utilized:
- mini A/V plug to a RCA composite (DV camcorder)
- RCA composite to RCA composite (VCR or DVD player)
- Connect either the mini A/V plug to the device's A/V port or RCA cables to the red (right channel audio) and white (left channel audio) RCA outputs on the device.
- Connect the RCA cables (red and white) to the RCA input connections (red and white) on the capture card breakout cable on the back of the computer.
|
 |
RCA:Connects device to capture card to simulanteously digitize good quality video/audio.
|
- Locate the RCA output on the device. There are two different types of RCA output connections dependent on the type of device being utilized:
- mini A/V plug to a RCA composite (DV camcorder)
- RCA composite to RCA composite (VCR or DVD player)
- Connect either the mini A/V plug to the device's A/V port or RCA cables to the yellow (video), red (right channel audio) and white (left channel audio) RCA outputs on the device.
- Connect the RCA cables (yellow, red and white) to the RCA input connections (yellow, red and white) on the capture card breakout cable on the back of the computer.
