Streaming media is video, audio or other media that is constantly received by, and displayed to users while it is being delivered by the provider. Streaming media really refers to the delivery method of the medium rather than to the medium itself. In the early days of the Internet, media (graphics, video, audio) was delivered as single files and the user had to wait for it to completely download to view it. Now, most forms of multimedia are delivered as compressed files and divided into "packets" for easy transmission over networks, offered from specialized computers, called media servers.

Viewing streaming media usually requires a media player. These are free viewers downloadable from the companies that provide them.

How does one create a streaming media file? First, one must have a media file to convert to a streaming format. To create these, you should research these areas first:

ACC's preferred streaming media format is Flash (.flv files).
