Teaching & Technology Trends Symposium

March 30, 2007
Highland Business Center

Instructional Development Services (IDS) will host the Spring 2007 Teaching and Technology Trends Symposium on Friday, March 30, 2007, to address the training and professional needs of faculty and help ACC meet the goals of the strategic focus for the SACS self-study -- "Infusing 21st Innovation into Learning: A Student-Centered Examination of New Technologies, and Instituional Structures." (See SACS reports).

This event has been designed to model learner-centered instruction in keeping with the SACS recommendation to transform the college from an "instruction" paradigm to a "learning" paradigm. Topics will apply to classroom, hybrid, and distance learning courses. Under this learner-centered umbrella, the workshops offered at this event will support the following outcomes:

Participants will:

  • integrate appropriate technologies into teaching and learning
  • employ technology tools to assess student learning
  • maintain and improve student success through the use of technology and learning tools
  • employ distributed learning practices and activities in courses
  • keep abreast of new technologies and teaching innovations
  • effectively manage the increasing demand and production of electronically based information
  • develop appropriate and effective assessment and evaluation of newly incorporated technologies in teaching and learning.

IDS regularly collects feedback from faculty and staff through surveys, questionnaires, and evaluations to provide the appropriate information and services that address the issues faculty face in real and virtual classrooms. Each session will provide participants with concrete ways to employ the information, resources, tools, and skills learned to their job in the academic year. Faculty and staff will be able to obtain credit towards their training objectives, development plans, or to include in their portfolio.
