Use research-based instructional strategies to design student learning resources
- New Student Online Orientation (TOP)
The Orientation Program (TOP) Online is designed to inform students about, and connect them to, the college's support systems, resources, and services to promote a successful start to college.
Mandatory for all students new to ACC Fall 2014.
- Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA)
The Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) guides students through the ACC process to determine Math, Reading, and Writing skill level(s). Assessment results help advisors and counselors place students in the best courses for their skill level and career interests.
Mandatory before taking the new TSI Assessment as of Fall 2013.
- First Year Seminar (FYSE)
This 15 hour seminar provides students with strategies for academic success while also creating opportunities for engagement with their peers and the broader ACC community. Instructional Development conducted Austin Competency Analysis Profiles with students, faculty, and staff to identify the learning outcomes for the seminar and then managed the curriculum development process.
Mandatory for all first time in college students Spring 2015.
- Are You Ready for Distance Learning
This diagnostic tool allows students to self-assess how well prepared they are to succeed in a distance learning course. Instructional Development worked in cooperation with Distance Learning and Student Services to develop the online assessment.
For all potential DL students, not yet mandatory, available Fall 2014.
- Distance Learning Student Orientation
The Distance Learning Student Orientation is for new distance learning students to connect them to the college's support systems, resources and services so that they have successful starts to their distance learning courses. Instructional Development worked with subject matter experts to develop the interactive online Orientation module.
For all students new to DL, not yet mandatory, available Fall 2014.
- Blackboard™ Student Support Materials
The Blackboard student support website, and the corresponding handouts, provide students with the information they need to submit assignments and tests, check their grades, and complete other common tasks in Blackboard. Instructional Development maintains these resources to make sure students can easily access the most up-to-date information on ACC’s learning management system.
