WIDS: Worldwide Instructional Design System

The Worldwide Instructional Design System (WIDS) software is a learning and assessment design tool created by educators for educators. It offers a consistent, organizing framework for course and program design. The software can generate reports such as outcome summaries, syllabi, and scoring guides for assessments or activities. The user can choose from libraries of learning or assessment activities, skill standards, and verbs aligned with levels of Bloom's taxonomy to enhance curriculum and meet the needs of different learning styles. Checklists, and guidelines on every screen of the software make it very user friendly, guiding the user throughout the curriculum development process.

The Instructional Development Office offers training each semester in this software. The training awards 18 hours of professional development. Trainees receive a copy of the software and user's manual upon completion of the workshop. Check the ACC Workshop Registration site at https://www3.austincc.edu/it/workshops/www/login.php under Available Workshops for a "Basic WIDS" workshop date, or request a workshop for your area by contacting one of the instructional design specialists.

For a demonstration, please visit the WIDS site at http://www.wids.org/ and "Take the Tour" by clicking on the "go" button to view a power point presentation of the software, or call our office for an expanded demonstration.
