Chef Brian McCormick
Chef Brian McCormick discovered a love of cooking while he was in high school. An after-school job as a parking attendant for a local New York restaurant gave him access to the behind-the-scenes workings of a commercial kitchen. Amidst the chaos, noise, sights, smells, and food, he found his life’s work. In the late 1970's, Brian earned an Associate of Applied Sciences in Culinary Arts from the Culinary Institute of America. After working in food industry management in the Northeast for several years, he found himself back in the kitchen when a resident chef failed to show up for his shift, and he has never looked back. Almost 20 years later Brian landed in Austin and continued his career as a chef at Scholz’s Beer garden, Wyndham South Park, Choices Deli and HEB, where he was one of the founders of the grocery chain’s “Cooking Connection” program. He has been teaching at ACC’s Culinary Arts program since 1999, and says he is constantly amazed at how much he learns from his students and can only hope they learn as much from him.
Chef Brian Hay
Chef Brian Hay has been working and learning in the food service industry since the late 1980’s. As a young child in Ontario, Canada, he was a faithful viewer of “The Galloping Gourmet,” one of television’s earliest cooking shows. He moved on to more formal studies in order to realize his dream of becoming a professional chef, earning multiple degrees and certificates in the field, including a Master's degree from Purdue University in Restaurant Management, a Sommelier diploma from the International Sommelier Guild and a Gastronomy Certificate from Adelaide University. Chef Hay was responsible for the development of the ACC’s Hospitality Management program, and has been the Program Coordinator for the college’s Culinary Arts program for over a decade. He has been teaching Culinary Arts classes at ACC since 1996.
