Students FAQs
Production
Can I copy audio cassettes?
Yes. Foreign language and other study aid tapes are on reserve in the
library for students to copy. In order to make a copy, students need to
supply their own blank tapes. High speed duplicators are located with
in each campus library.
Can I copy video tapes?
No. Videotapes have different licensing agreements and therefore cannot
be copied. The only videos that can be copied are original student and
faculty productions such as dance performances and in-class speeches.
Can I record voice overs?
The production capabilities in the Media Center are limited. If you
merely want to do an audio voice over of a PowerPoint presentation,
the Centers with Streaming Media stations can help. We can even digitize
video and allow for digital editing including voice over. However projects
do take time so planning ahead is essential.
Can you tape a program for me?
Your professor can request that we record a TV program off air.
Can I scan some pictures to use in my class presentation?
Currently there are no scanners for students available. However, if
all you need to scan is on or two items exceptions can be made to allow
students to scan in the Faculty Resource Center.
Tapes
Can I check it out and take it home to view it?
There are some specially marked tapes that are available for 3-day
check out. Most tapes, however, must be viewed at the media viewing
stations in the Library.
I would like to view a tape from another campus. Do I have to go there to view it?
No. You can request that a tape at another campus be sent to your
campus via campus mail. It usually takes a couple of days so plan
accordingly.
My group needs to watch a video together. What do we do?
There are usually 6 headphone jacks in each booth in the Media Viewing
Area in the library. Quiet study rooms in the library may be available
to request a video set up for small group viewing.
Equipment
Can we check out headsets to use on the computers in the library?
There are headsets available for check out in the media Center. You'll
need your student ID or driver's license to check them out.
Can I reserve equipment for my instructor to pick up? Can I check out a computer cart for my class project?
No. You will need to get you professor to reserve the equipment for you.
Can I pick up equipment my instructor has reserved?
Only on rare occasion (like when the instructor is injured) can
students pick up equipment for instructors. In this case the student
will need the instructors ACC ID, their own ACC ID and a photo ID.
I would like to do a PowerPoint presentation in my class. May I use a multimedia cart for my presentation?
If you just need to practice, you can arrange a time with the Media
Staff to set up a cart in the Media Center or quiet study room for you
to use the equipment to practice you presentation. You will need to
get your professor to reserve the cart for your classroom presentation.
