When I add grades or change a column, the Grade Center doesn't seem to save my changes. How do I correct this?
This problem is caused by Internet Explorer's cache setting.
Here is how to fix this issue in Internet Explorer (IE):
- Click the "Tools" menu and then "Internet Options"
- Then click on the "Settings" button for "Browsing History" or "Temporary Internet files".
- Next, make sure "Every time I visit the webpage" is selected for "Check for newer versions of stored pages".
Note: You may also want to switch to using Firefox as your preferred browser since the Grade Center loads faster and doesn't have the inherent problems that effect IE.
I can't see the scroll bar in the Grade Center with Firefox or IE.
The problem is related to the scroll bar setting in Windows XP.
This can be fixed by changing the Windows XP scroll bar size back to 20 or smaller.
Here is how to change the scroll bar setting in Windows XP:
- Open the Windows Control Panel, Display Properties
- Click the Appearance tab
- Click the Advanced button
- Select "Scrollbar" from the Item: drop-down list and change the size to < 20 (the default is 17)

How do I customize my course menu?
You can add or remove items from your course menu by clicking the Manage Course Menu link located in the Control Panel area of your course.
There are four types of menu items that you can choose to add. The type of menu item you choose to add is important, as they will all serve a different purpose.
- Content Area - This is an area where you will place some kind of content. Content can be Word documents, PDFs, Web Pages, assessment links, anything really. The important part is that a content area is a place to put stuff (exactly like a folder).
- Tool Area - A tool area will link to a Blackboard feature that does something. Examples of Blackboard tools include grade checking, discussion boards, the virtual classroom (aka live chat room), e-mail, Calendar, etc. A tool area will link to a function within Blackboard.
- Course Link - A Course Link will link to a specific place within your Blackboard course. For instance, a course link can link directly to a specific discussion forum within your course, or it could also link directly to Unit 3 Homework (which is really in Course Documents > Unit 3 > Homework > Homework for Unit 3). You could consider a course link as, "creating a shortcut to something in my course."
- External Link - External links are simply links to web sites outside of Blackboard. For instance, you could add a link to the library's MLA documentation site, or your personal website, directly from your course menu.
