What are the Advanced Blackboard Testing Options?

The Respondus Authoring Tool is a powerful tool for creating, managing and publishing exams within Blackboard. The types of exam questions that can be created or edited in Respondus are:

  • Multiple Choice
  • True False
  • Essay and Short Answer
  • Matching
  • Ordering
  • Fill in the Blank
  • Multiple Answer
  • Calculate

In addition to creating new exams with Respondus or importing existing exam document files, instructors can also modify or convert previously created Blackboard exams for secure computer based delivery by adding a security setting locally and uploading the revision to Blackboard. An instructor can also use Respondus test bank questions from text book publishers.

Respondus enables instructors to offer secure or non secure exams. Instructors can select some of the following exam option settings when creating tests:

  • Secure exam
  • Time limit and forced completion
  • Number of retakes and the days between retakes (if applicable)
  • Date(s) test will be available
  • Amount of automation (e.g.; all system graded, part system graded and part instructor graded--essay/short answer, etc.)
  • Feedback

Once the Respondus Authoring Tool application software has been installed on a local system, assessments can be created and uploaded directly to Blackboard.

ACC faculty members can have secure, computer-based test results generated automatically for common types of questions (e.g.; True/False, Multiple Choice, Multiple Answer, etc.). Essay tests can also be given with follow up grading by the instructor.

The results from submitted assessments are automatically sent to the instructor's Grade book within Blackboard.

Instructors must have a Blackboard account to use Respondus.
