Testing Center Administration

COMMUNICATING WITH THE TESTING CENTERS

When making a secure, online test available through the Testing Centers, there are some procedures that instructors need to follow. One of the most important things is for the instructor to communicate with the Testing Center staff and inform them that a secure computer based testt will be delivered through the Testing Centers.

To inform the Testing Centers that you intend to offer a secure online test, do the following:

  1. Complete an online Testing Center Transmittal Form. Note: In addition to the transmittal form, it is a good idea to also make a paper-based version of your exam available in case there is a technical issue during the delivery of the exam.
  2. Schedule your test.
    • Assign the appropriate start and end date within Blackboard for your online test to ensure it will be available in a content area ONLY during the time period you specified
    • Make sure you have selected the LockDown browser feature for the exam
    • If an instructor generated password has been issued for the exam (determined by the instructor), be sure to include that password on the transmittal form. It is not recommended for an instructor to add an additional password to the one already automatically generated by Respondus.
    • DO NOT CHANGE THE RESPONDUS SYSTEM GENERATED PASSWORD WITHIN Bb
    • For additional assistance in scheduling your exam, contact an instructional development specialist located at an ACC campus nearest you. For the PIN campus, contact Jim Holzknecht at 223-8011 or jholzkne@austincc.edu.
  3. Inform your students of the on-line test taking process. (Note: Be sure they know that they MUST have their Blackboard User ID and Password in order to access their tests. The Testing Center staff DOES NOT have this information. The student will need to have it when they arrive in the Testing Center.)
  4. Be sure to communicate the Blackboard content area where the exam resides. It is recommended to create a folder called Exams and put your secure exams in it.
  5. PLEASE NOTE AND INFORM YOUR STUDENTS THAT EACH TESTING CENTER HAS A LIMITED NUMBER OF COMPUTERS FOR ON-LINE TESTING AND STUDENTS SHOULD NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO TAKE THEIR TESTS.
  6. Retests, make ups and other testing requirements will be based on whatever procedure the instructor has established. On-line tests have several test administrative options which are set when an assessment is created.
  7. In addition to submitting the online Testing Center Transmittal Form , it is a good idea to call the Testing Centers to inform them that you have made your secure, computer based exam within Blackboard available.
