Installing the Respondus Authoring Tool

Installing from an ACC Computer

1. Complete the online form to request the Respondus at: http://irttech.austincc.edu/forms/respondusform.asp
2. You will receive an email with the Installation password for the Respondus desktop software.
3. Also included in the email will be the user ID and login password you will need to access and download the software from an ACC computer.
4. Go to the Start menu
5. Select Run and in the text box type: \\irtapps\RespondusAuthor
6. A log in dialog box appears. Use the User ID and login password (not the installation password) in the text boxes provided.
7. Double click on the Respondus35Campus icon to launch the Install shield wizard. (Note: to create your own installation disk, simply drag the Respondus35Campus icon onto an external storage drive such as a CD or pen drive. Once the software has been copied onto an external storage device, you can install it onto another computer or you can request a CD copy to be mailed to you.)
8. Follow the steps outlined in the installation process (it is recommended to use the default directories already established by Respondus)
9. Select the "I accept" option.
10. Proceed through the setup screens by selecting Next.
11. It will ask you if you want to install the Equation Editor. Select No.
12. Download the setup software onto your desktop.
13. Select the Respondus installation shortcut icon (white square with blue line on top) on your desktop. If there is no shortcut on the desktop, go to programs, Respondus, right click on Respondus and select Create a shortcut. Drag the shortcut to the desktop.
14. Restart your computer.
15. Select the Respondus 3.5 Campus-Wide icon on the desktop (icon with the white R with a blue background).
16.  When you open the software, a Campus-wide license screen will be displayed
    
    
    
    
1. For the Institution Name type: Austin Community College.
2. In the Support Contact box, type System Administrator.
3. Copy and paste the Installation password sent to you after submitting the Respondus software online request form (See step 1). You will not be able to use this software without the Installation Password.
4. Select License.
5. Select Blackboard 6.3-8.0 in the Personality dialog box pull down menu.
6. Click X to close the Respondus Newsletter request screen.
7. The Respondus Authoring Tool will launch with the Blackboard 6.3-XXXX personality information already displayed on the main interface page.

After you have installed the Respondus Authoring Tool on your computer, you are ready to create an exam .

Obtaining a CD and Installing from a CD

1. To obtain a Respondus installation CD, send your name and mailing address to: jholzkne@austincc.edu or request assistance from your campus' Instructional Development Specialist. http://irt.austincc.edu/ids/staff.html
2. Once you receive the CD, insert it and double click on the Respondus35Campus icon.
3. Follow steps 8-16 above.
