Delivering Secure Tests within the Testing Centers

Secure, computer based exams are delivered via an ACC Testing Center computer. Specific procedures must be followed by the student when taking an exam in an ACC Testing Center. An instructor should refer his or her students to the instructions below or print a copy of the LockDown Browser instructions and give them to students prior to administering a secure, computer based test within Blackboard.

Students who experience issues while taking a computer based exam, need to follow the procedures for test delivery support and troubleshooting.

As an instructor, you can test the functionality of a secure exam before making it available to students.

A way to test a secure exam within Blackboard is to enroll a sample student in your course and take the exam as the sample student. To enroll a sample student in your course, do the following:

  1. Log into your Bb course.
  2. Select Control Panel
  3. Select Enroll User
  4. Select John Doe from the list of students. Note: if you have already enrolled this student in your course, John Doe will not appear on the list of available students.

After a sample student has been enrolled in your course, take an exam in the Testing Center. To test a secure exam in the Testing Centers, do the following:

  1. Go to an ACC Testing Center which offers secure, computer based testing (i.e. CYP, EVC, NRG, PIN, RVS, RGC, SAC).
  2. Inform a Testing Center Staff member that you are there to test the functionality of a secure, computer based test within Blackboard.
  3. At the Testing Center student computer desktop, click on the Blackboard Test icon.
  4. Enter the User Name and Password for the sample student John Doe.
  5. Log in using the sample user ID and password for that student.
  6. Select the course with the secure, computer based exam.
  7. From Blackboard's upper left hand course navigation list select Exams.
  8. Select the secure, computer based exam. (Note: the title should contain the words "Requires Respondus LockDown Browser" in the exam title.
  9. A screen will be launched asking you if the instructor has issued a password for the exam. Select No if you did not create a password for the exam.
  10. Select OK and your test will launch. If a student attempts to click on the exam link outside of a Testing Center, the exam will not be accessible.
  11. Take the test and submit it.
  12. Close the LockDown browser, close Blackboard and exit the system.

You can check your Blackboard gradebook to verify that the exam score results were posted accurately. View additional information on retrieving your students' exam results.

A student must bring a valid ACC Student Photo ID with them to the Testing Center and they must follow the Testing Center procedures and guidelines for students .

It is recommended that students review the steps for taking a secure, computer based test within an ACC Testing Center.

Non secure assessments are simply delivered in the Blackboard content area specified by the instructor and are not delivered within a Testing Center.
