Using
Announcements in Blackboard
Announcements can be used to keep students
up-to-date with changes to the course, important
dates (such as deadlines etc...) or useful
information. When a student log into Blackboard
they will immediately see the announcements for
each course on their 'My Institution' page. They
will also see them on the first screen when they
enter their course sites.
Creating an
Announcement
On the control panel>>choose Announcements
On the Announcements page, choose
You will then see a text box into which you can type a short message.
Announcements are displayed on the students' and teachers' views
of Blackboard and are "archived" after one week. Always click Submit and OK at the bottom right of the Blackboard page to complete tasks.

Creating a Voice
Announcement
You can also record a short voice announcement. Go to control panel>>choose Voice Announcement.

Type in a subject and message and then click the round button to begin recording (make sure your microphone is plugged into your computer!). Click the square button to stop recording.
An icon will appear in the announcements area. On options, click "make permanent" to always show the icon with your recording. If not, it too will be archived after one week.

Best Practices
Remember that announcements are "prime screen real estate!" They are front and center, therefore, keep them short and update them as needed. You should remind students to check the announcement archives tab if they miss class, as last week's announcements will no longer automatically show when they login.
